Historical Events in the U.S from 1980- present

In the 1980’s a lot of historical things happened. Regan became president which helped our economy because the 70’s had torn it down completely. It had the worst unemployment rates ever seen and in the 80’s they had to rebuild the workforce.  The challenger shuttle went down which I myself witnessed being a school child in Florida it was a huge deal when the shuttles took off. The Berlin wall came down causing Germany to become one again. These are just a few things that happened in this time in history that made it great.

The 1990’s brought a lot of insight to people.  The World Wide Web (internet) was created and people began to become informed. The Gulf War began. Clinton becomes president and takes us to new heights. He left office with the highest surplus.  Hurricane Andrew hit Florida just a few hours from where I lived. The Oklahoma City bombing took place that killed and wounded hundreds of people. It began with our own people being terrorists against us.

The scariest of them all had to have been 2000’s. I’m sure there were some good things that happened but the worst thing our country had ever seen was 9/11. This scared and shocked so many people. There were a massive number of men, women and children killed in these attacks. Hurricane Katrina was another catastrophe. This displaced so many people and ruined several cities, some of which are still trying to rebuild themselves today. Another election took place and Bush would become our president for two terms. Then a very large slice of history would be accomplished. We would have the very first black president ever in our history. President Obama was elected in 2008.

Each of these artifacts represent a new time. Whether you are looking at the challenger that went down, or the President that helped build the economy or the scariest time in our nation’s history. You will notice that each of these have made it into our history books. They are a huge part of American culture because these have made us who we are today. We are strong, independent people who have the know-how to survive anything that is thrown at us. These were just a brief description of the things that have happened during this era and I’m sure there will be many more things to hit the history books.

  2. Thank you! I also remember where i was when the first plane went into the tower. My mom, brother, daughter and I were on our way to Shriners Hospital in Lexington KY. It was so bad that the doc never seen us and on the way back you were not even able to use your bank cards at gas stations. I don't know what we would have done for gas if the gas station we stopped at didn't decide to accept checks. Thanks for your response!
