Historical Events in the U.S from 1980- present

Historical Events in the U.S from 1980- present

nasa.gov

In the 1980’s a lot of historical things happened. Regan became president which helped our economy because the 70’s had torn it down completely. It had the worst unemployment rates ever seen and in the 80’s they had to rebuild the workforce.  The challenger shuttle went down which I myself witnessed being a school child in Florida it was a huge deal when the shuttles took off. The Berlin wall came down causing Germany to become one again. These are just a few things that happened in this time in history that made it great.

The 1990’s brought a lot of insight to people.  The World Wide Web (internet) was created and people began to become informed. The Gulf War began. Clinton becomes president and takes us to new heights. He left office with the highest surplus.  Hurricane Andrew hit Florida just a few hours from where I lived. The Oklahoma City bombing took place that killed and wounded hundreds of people. It began with our own people being terrorists against us.

The scariest of them all had to have been 2000’s. I’m sure there were some good things that happened but the worst thing our country had ever seen was 9/11. This scared and shocked so many people. There were a massive number of men, women and children killed in these attacks. Hurricane Katrina was another catastrophe. This displaced so many people and ruined several cities, some of which are still trying to rebuild themselves today. Another election took place and Bush would become our president for two terms. Then a very large slice of history would be accomplished. We would have the very first black president ever in our history. President Obama was elected in 2008.

Each of these artifacts represent a new time. Whether you are looking at the challenger that went down, or the President that helped build the economy or the scariest time in our nation’s history. You will notice that each of these have made it into our history books. They are a huge part of American culture because these have made us who we are today. We are strong, independent people who have the know-how to survive anything that is thrown at us. These were just a brief description of the things that have happened during this era and I’m sure there will be many more things to hit the history books.

Facebook assignment 1-4-6

Facebook
Assignment 1-4-6

I think the theory of progressive evolution is the best fit for my topic. Meaning, everyone gets a shot. Everyone can use it. Facebook is for everyone. No matter if you are rich or poor or in between. If you have a computer with internet, than Facebook is designed for you. Facebook is a new fad and people from every generation of every age are using it to stay in touch. This is why I say the theory of progressive evolution is the best fit.  Evolution is known as growth of any kind. Facebook is always growing which means it is progressing each and every day. Hence, the theory of progressive evolution.

I think the most interesting thing I learned from writing these analysis was, how large Facebook has become. You start to analyze how people treat one another on it. People judge and say whatever they want on there without even thinking about it first. Learning the actual age of people on Facebook was another shocker. Anyone using Facebook should be 13 or above but there are kids that are 5 years old using it. It’s just not right for that age group.  In general most of my findings were common knowledge. I don’t think I will look at Facebook any different because of the analysis. Most of what I wrote came from my knowledge and the observations that I made.

Facebook(formula)

Facebook (formulas)

Facebook is a complex yet simple way to stay connected to the outside world. People today use it to stay in touch with friends, family, network, shop and so much more. While we the people enjoy Facebook there is a person behind the scenes making it all work for us. Marc Zuckerberg is the founder of Facebook. He has to enter in tons of codes and formulas to make the programs run smoothly. He has to keep up with the large amounts of people to make sure not to upset them with system malfunctions. So many of us get frustrated when we cannot use Facebook the way we want to or if it is not functioning correctly.

There was also a lot of thought in how Facebook would work when it first came about. If you really think about it, Facebook is made for family and friends now but it originally began for some college kids. You were not able to join without being in college. Then it turned out to be a hit with them so he decided to expand it to friends and family of those college kids and then their friends and family joined and so forth and so on.

While we enjoy catching up and gossiping on Facebook, it is also a complex program with a lot of thought that was inserted into it. It is true that formulas are in our everyday lives no matter what the situation. This must be why they state that math is so important to us and why we have to take so many algebra classes. :o)

What Happened to Hemingway’s Manuscripts?

What in the world happened to Ernest Hemingway’s writings? Were they lost, stolen, misplaced or just carelessly carried around until they came up missing? These are just some of the questions in the minds of the people trying to make sense of it all. There are several writers who have written tell tales about what really happened to Hemingway’s manuscripts. Each one tries to tell exactly what happened to the writings. No one really knows what happened to these works that mysteriously came up missing.
In my opinion I’m not sure they were lost I think it was meant to be a mystery. Hemingway knew that these stories were a work of art and they were sought after by many people. I think he wanted to keep it that way. They had become famous in their time and ours. Whether someone had found them and gave them back or not, I don’t think Hemingway would have admitted that they were ever found. The mystery was kind of like a game to him and he enjoyed it. In my opinion Hemingway was a little twisted.
Several writers have their own theories. One theory in this article is that Hemingway’s girlfriend Hadley lost the manuscripts. She was supposed to be bringing them on a trip with her when they came up missing. She is thought to have wanted to keep him under her thumb and purposely misplaced them. She was however pregnant and some believe that she had too much on her mind and may have accidentally misplaced them. Hemingway was living off of her trust fund and some people believe that she wanted to keep it that way.  It is said that although        Hemingway forgave for losing his works, he never forgot. He was extremely upset but did not show it.
Another writer turned the lost manuscript story into a who did it mystery. He wrote that he was with Hemingway when the manuscripts were found and given back. He supposedly knows that the manuscripts had been returned and Hemingway wanted to keep them lost. He believed that they would lose their luster if found. They were great works of art if lost but may be nothing if found.
I can see how each of these stories about the manuscripts could be pretty close to the truth. I am however skeptical about what happened to the manuscripts. The authors want you to believe that they really know what they are talking about whether they really know what happened or not. They go into great depths to tell all they know to get your mind wondering and keep it going. However it makes me wonder which of these are true? How did these writings come about missing and who may have taken them? Why didn’t Hemingway keep the manuscripts on him? Why would you entrust such works of art with someone else? These are questions that may never be answered. Only Hemingway himself knows the real truth. The rest of it is just speculation.
Hemingway was a great writer. Maybe even the greatest writer ever. He wrote many stories and won many awards. It was a huge thing for his time to be such a great journalist and writer. He influenced many people and many looked up to him. I’m sure there are still people who admire his works and have made a career for themselves based on the work that he did. Is this important? Yes. It most definitely is important. He has shaped our writings and our theories. Made us wonder and think outside the box. I think Hemingway may have given us the greatest gift by never having the manuscripts found because people learned what it was like to think for themselves. Wondering who, what, where, why, when and how are the things that make our imaginations come to life and this is how great writing comes about.
I found this journal analysis to be very intriguing. It made me look at things in a different light. I found my own imagination wondering where these writings went. Trying to siphon through the mysteries and figure out the: who, why, where, when and how of these manuscripts.

Facebook: Heroes and Celebrity Cults

Facebook:
Heroes and the celebrity cults

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes and from every stretch of land. I think Facebook has been able to actually relate us to those heroes. Everything travels so much faster through today’s technology. Now the person who has cancer is the new hero but tomorrow it may be a man that pulled a car off of someone. It’s amazing to know what we the people can actually face and how our heroes are formed. Just today I heard of a lifeguard who had been fired because he saved someone that was out of his jurisdiction. They then decided to give him the key to the city. Facebook has been a huge contributing factor in helping to get the word out fast. Its social media and everyone reads it. It has become our daily newspaper.
Being a celebrity is not something I would want. Even by knowing a celebrity you can become famous. The paparazzi follow you everywhere and you never get any privacy. Even on Facebook celebrities have to be careful what they say or what pictures they have up because there is always someone out there waiting to exploit them. Take an innocent picture and turn it into something ugly or fictitious. Their moms and dads, brothers and sisters, girlfriends and boyfriends all have to be careful of what they do or say on Facebook. There is just no privacy for these people they are stalked everyday through Facebook and many other sites.

Facebook Rituals and Stereotypes

Facebook is a great way to pass the time while staying in contact with friends and family. There are other aspects to Facebook though. There are many rituals to Facebook such as birthday wishes. Everyone wants to wish you a happy birthday on Facebook or send an e-card to you so that you know they care. It’s become a cheaper more common way to wish everyone a happy birthday. Holidays are another ritual that people like to send out their e-cards and Happy Holiday wishes. The like button and comments are also ritual. If you see something said that you like or feel the need to comment on it gives you the option to voice your opinion or just hit like. This is a great way to keep in contact with each other.

Stereotypes on Facebook are common. It is just like in real life. You have your snobs, the alcoholics, the people who only post about god, people who think their better than everyone else and the people that always have something to say about anything you post. You see this every time you log in to Facebook anymore. A person has tons of pictures of them out drinking tons of beer. You also have people who will never speak to you because your beneath them. There is always someone posting something about God and some people get so upset about that. You always have the person that no matter what you say they are going to argue with you and prove you wrong.

Facebook is like high school all over again. People have no manners and don’t seem to care if they hurt anyone. They say what they want when they want and it’s all about them. I’m bias when it comes to Facebook because I try not to judge people. Although there are times when we all judge someone no matter what the circumstances.

Facebook

Facebook is an amazing way of keeping in touch with family and friends. It is also used for networking and to help with employment.  There are several reasons why people choose to use Facebook. Weather it is for pleasure, personal use, business, information and so much more. Facebook was originally formatted for college kids to stay in touch with their friends and families. It began to branch out and catch on very quickly. There are now people of all ages using it. There is an age limit of 13 years but is seldom upheld.  People from all over the world use Facebook it is the new fad. It once had a competitor called MySpace but Facebook quickly put them under due to the capacity to upload information and photos very quickly. I myself switched over to Facebook due to this fact. The owner of Facebook has made it such an Icon and spends several hours daily encrypting it and keeping up on the new trends.
According to Top 5 Myths about Facebook (Atteberry, 1998-2012) the top five myths are, Facebook is going to sell your pictures, Facebook destroys your social skills, Company X Is going to buy Facebook, Facebook’s founder took the thought for the Facebook site, and lastly they’re going to make people pay for Facebook. All of which is not true and these myths have been out there for years now. Although there are times when people wonder if these myths are going to come true when they are constantly changing the face of Facebook and people do not like the unknown. Every time people see a change there is talk on Facebook about what is happening to the site. None of which usually happens. Although, there are times when people wonder if they will be able to access their Facebook pages due to the changes made to the site. It is extremely frustrating to people when we depend on Facebook for a lot of information and work. Facebook is a large part of people’s daily life and people just do not like the unknown or change.
